Previously on Battlestar Galactica...

It was just a college band.  Two geeks with guitars and a computer started experimenting in 1993.  Absurd side projects like BMWA and Calculus, kept us busy and let us figure out where we wanted our sound to be.  The name came about in the early days of the net, as a means to lure people into checking us out.  It was unique, and stuck.  Getting a club to put Dead Pornography on a marquee is a trick, and we seriously considered changing our name to Tonight:Band in honor of club owners' hesitation.  But I digress...oh yeah, two geeks with guitars and a computer...

Tory and Matt met in high school.  Matt was a metal head, and Tory was trying to be the next incarnation of Andrew Eldritch.  The early sound was rough.  The guitars were cheap, and the computer was a stock machine, never intended for high end production.  We played some shows, even recorded a few demos on Matt's 4-track.  Tory spent too much time playing guitar and watching All My Children, and not enough time going to class, and Matt went to work in Silicone Valley.  That should have been the end of it, but...

Les joined up as bassist/keyboardist in 1999 for Matt's last show with the band.  His arrival rejuvenated the band, and we began exploring new, more complex arrangements.  Adam arrived in 2000 and provided a howling guitar sound that filled out the arrangements.  We were on the verge of something amazing, adding Steve to free Tory from playing guitar.  One land war in Asia providing an interruption, Steve was replaced by Rob and a proper album was recorded in 2005/2006.  Essentially a best of collection from the first 12 years.  Don't Forsake Me Oh My Darling was still rough around the edges, produced in a basement with a slightly upgraded computer, and produced ourselves.  Then in 2006 things fell apart.  Each of our personal lives took turns that pulled us away from each other, and away from music.  At this point most people would give up.

Tory hid out in his basement for two years writing and recording Fake.  Then it sat for a decade, while we fumbled about trying to recapture the essence of what had passed away.  Then in 2014 Tory was introduced to a new guitarist, Brie, and dusted off his kit for one more go at this music thing.  Joining with Les, the trio formed Spooky Action At A Distance in 2016.  The allure of playing again rekindled the fire in the heart of Dead Pornography.  Tory is hard at work remastering Fake and Do Not Forsake Me Oh My Darling.  Look for them in the Music section soon.  Tory may even throw some new material up in between the albums, if you're lucky.  Who knows if we'll play as Dead Pornography in the future, or who may be with Tory on stage.  But you can be sure that Dead Porn will never go away.
